Lessons
I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from masters of the saxophone, Remi Bolduc, Christine Jensen, and Ben van Gelder, as well as the phenomenal clarinet player John Ruocco during a year in the Netherlands.
Whether you have just started on saxophone or clarinet, or want to further develop as a musician, I would love to share what I have learned!
All my lessons are lead first and foremost by the interests of the student, and finding repertoire - whether that’s Jazz, Classical, Rock, Pop or Funk, that we can explore together. Through the music we encounter technical limitations and other challenges that drive progress and expertise on the instrument.
Potential Lesson Topics include:
Technical skills of saxophone/clarinet - tone and sound production, tuning, scales and arpeggios, exercises based on chord-scale theory, altissimo, overtones, transcriptions, and études
'Playing Changes' or Improvisation on diverse repertoire - voice leading and melodic content, applying chord-scale theory, developing a vocabulary, specific musical styles and the tools they use.
Learning Repertoire - How to learn tunes effectively and efficiently, and learning to play repertoire from many traditions, : jazz standards, funk, fusion hip hop, traditional, dixie, ragtime and pop!
Composition and Arranging - song forms and melody writing, harmonization and reharmonization, orchestration and voicing, tools to develop a melody, arranging in specific musical styles.
Lessons can be delivered in English or in French
